Jiating Liu

Jiating Liu is a graduate student in History at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research interests include Sino-Southeast Asian relations, the history of travel, spatial history, historical geography, digital humanities, and the maritime worlds of Song-Yuan China. Her current project focuses on Chinese sources and explores how trade, politics and culture shaped maritime networks around the China Seas. Her scholarship combines traditional historical inquiry with computational methods such as text mining, network analysis, and digital mapping.

At ISHI, she works with the World Historical Gazetteer and ISHI teams to develop and publish Chinese and Southeast Asian historical place data, which closely connects with her own research while contributing to broader digital infrastructure for global historical scholarship.
